4 New Scorpion Motors Added!
We just took delivery of 4 new motors from Scorpion to add to their already impressive lineup! Two of them are for Helicopoters and the other two are for aircraft. First, for
the new Gaui 200 Micro Helicopter, Scorpion has introduced two motors, the HK-2208-3600 and the HK-2208-4660. These motors feature a 2.3mm output shaft in place of the standard 3.17mm
output shaft so that the stock pinion gears can be used. The HK-2208-3600 motor is designed for use with a 3-cell Li-Po battery pack, and the HK-2208-4660 motor is designed for use
with a 2-cell Li-Po battery pack. These motors can also be used in other smaller micro helicopters that require a motor with a 2.3mm output shaft, and also work great as a brushless
upgrade motor for helis using a 300 class brushed motor. For more information on these motors, please check out the
Scorpion HK-2208-3600 motor and the
Scorpion HK-2208-4660 motor on our site.

The next two motors are high Kv versions of the popular Scorpion 2212 and 2215 airplane motors. We received a lot of requests for higher Kv versions of these 2 popular motors for use
in Pusher Jets, Pylon Racers, and for .049 glow conversions that require the use of a 6 or 7 inch prop due to clearance issues. We are happy to announce that the new 2212-1920 and
2215-1860 motors are now available! These new motors work great with props in the 6 to 7 inch range, and work extremely well in Pusher Jet planes and Mid-Engine Profile type Jet models
that require smaller propellers. To find out more about these motors, please go to the
Scorpion 2212-1920 motor and the

Partial Closure for Vacation
Hello Everyone! This is Lucien Miller, the Owner and CVO of Innov8tive designs. If any of you have been to the major trade shows this year, then you have probably met my lovely sweetheart
Scarlett. We have been together for 10 years now, and she has been by my side providing support, and traveling with me to trade shows all over the country for the past 2-1/2 years.
During that time I have pretty much worked 12 to 15 hours per day, 7 days a week without a break, and as much as I love my job, I need some time off to relax and unwind! I will be taking the
last 2 weeks of September off, from the 16th until the 30th, to go on 2 week cruise vacation. During this time, I will be unavailable to answer any questions by Email or on my Scorpion
Question and Answer thread on RC Groups. My Shipping Manager, Morgan Daniels, will be here processing orders and answering the phones part time on Monday, Wednesday and Friday while I am away,
so any orders placed on the website will continue to be processed, but if you have any specific questions regarding the products, they will have to wait until I return on October 1st.
Hopefully, there will be a minimal amount of disruption in my absense, but rest assured, I will be there to take care of you all once I return!

Motor Bearing Lubrication Kit now available
To keep your brushless motor operating at maximum performance, it is important that the bearings in your motor be properly maintained. This is especially true of helicopter
motors that often spin in excess of 45,000 RPM. In an average flight, the motor in a 450 size helicopter spins around almost a quarter million times! Without proper lubrication,
the balls in the bearings can wear out quickly, leading to premature failure.
We have put together a motor bearing lubrication kit to help extend the life of the bearings in your Scorpion brushless motor. This kit contains a 25cc bottle of bearing lubricant
and two needle point applicator nozzles. One nozzle is 1" long, and will work with the 22mm and 30mm motors, and the other nozzle is 1.5" long to use with 40mm and larger motors.
The oil included in the kit is a special product that actually bonds to the metal parts, and resists being thrown out by the high speed and centrifugal forces inside the bearings.
A small drop placed on each bearing about once every 10 flights is enough to maintain proper lubrication to insure the longest possible life for your motor bearings.
Click here to check out the Motor Bearing Lubrication Kit on our site.

Questions about Shipping costs:
We have gotten a few calls lately concerning the shipping costs calculated on our website. When we originally set up the site, the only items that were offered were
Motors, Speed Controllers and Batteries. Since we ship with USPS Priority Mail, the site was set up to charge $5.00 shipping for the first item, and add $1.00 for each
additional item. At the time it was set up, this system worked very well, but lately there have been some issues with the system. Over the past year, we have added a lot
of small parts to the website, and this has created a situation where many times, a shipping charge gets calculated that is too high. If someone orders a dozen 6 inch
props, they have $10.00 worth of product with a $16.00 shipping charge! The new site we are developing will address this issue, and make it easy to get exact shipping
costs.
We are in the process of re-designing the entire webstore site, so in the mean time, what we are doing is making manual adjustments to the shipping costs before the order
is actually billed to your credit card. If you pay for the order with PayPal, we will issue a shipping refund to get the shipping charge back down to the actual shipping
cost. Our new site will use a weight based shipping calculator instead of an item based shipping calculator, so it will work no matter what you order. Sorry for the
confusion, and rest assured that we are taking steps to correct this.

International Shipping Surcharge:
Over the past year, we have been shipping to International addresses at the same rate as domestic US addresses as a service to our customers overseas. Unfortunately,
due to the recent increases in International Shipping rates, we can no longer afford to do this, as we are losing between $5.00 and $7.00 on every International order.
The shipping rates for the US and Canada will remain the same, but for any other country there will $5.00 International Shipping Surcharge added to the cost of your order.
There will be an International Shipping Surcharge added as a line item on the website, and this item will need to be orderd to process orders for customers that are
anywhere other than the USA or Canada. You will be directed to add this item during the check-out process if you forget to do so. Thank you for your cooperation with
this new shipping process!

New Policy concerning Warranty Coverage on Scorpion motors
All Scorpion motors come with a 2-Year warranty that covers defects in materials or workmanship, and this has not changed. The warranty change concerns the motor bearings,
and is effective June 30, 2008. The Scorpion Company has no control over how the motors will be used
in a model, and this is especially true for the helicopter motors. Due to the high spped at which these motors operate, if the gear lash is set too tight in a helicopter,
the side loads on the bearings can cause failure in a little as 5-10 flights. Also, due to the high speeds at which these motors operate, often in excess of 40,000 RPM,
the oil in the bearings can be thrown out after 10-12 flights. Because of these facts, we are recommending that the users of the Heli motors inspect the motor before each
flight t make sure that there is no wobble in the output shaft. This will catch any problems with the bearings before the bearings actually fail. Scorpion also recommends
that the bearings be oiled every 5-6 flights with a good silicone based motor oil, or a lubricating product such as Corrosion-X. This will ensure the longest possible life
fir the bearings and the motor. If the bearings do wear to the point where the output shaft wobbles at all, the motor should be taken out of service and the bearings should
be replaced. The bearings themselves will no longer be covered under the 2-year warranty, and any subsequent damage caused to the motor by the failure of a bearing will
also not be covered. It is the responsibility of the end user to make sure that the bearings are in good condition prior to each flight, and to cease flying immediatly if
the motor begins emitting any abnormal sounds that may be a sign of the bearings starting to fail.

New 40mm Motor added to the line-up!
We are happy to announce that a new motor has been added in the 40mm size. We received a number of requests for a 4020 motor that had a higher Kv, which could be used to
provide power for .60 to .90 size glow airplanes that were limited to a 12 or 13 inch propellor. Previously, the highest Kv motor in the 4020 family was the 4020-12,
which has a Kv of 542, and this motor required a 14" prop when running on 6-Li-Po cells to generate good power. The new motor, a 4020-10 wind, has a Kv of 630, and can
perform well with a 12 or 13 inch prop on 6 Li-Po cells. We are taking orders on these motors now for immediate delivery. To check out this new motor, and the rest of
the Scorpion 40mm motors, go to the
Scorpion 40mm Motor page on our website.

Scorpion Motor Comparison Chart Now On-Line
With all of the brushless motors that are currrently available, it can be a confusing maze of numbers trying to figure out how one motor from a manufacturer compares to
another motor from a different manufacturer. We get emails every day asking, "What Scorpion Motor is equivilent to a 28-940 from Manufacturer X, or the kit calls for a
3245-18 from Company Z, what Scorpion motor would you recommend to replace it." To answer these kinds of questions, we have put together a very comprehensive list of 12
popular brand brushless motors, and matched them up with each other and the appropriate Scorpion Motor that is closest in performance. This chart can be viewed on-line
at our Scorpion Motor Matching Chart. For a formatted 2-page PDF version of the
Motor Comparison chart that is ready to print, please download the Scorpion Motor Chart Zip

Scorpion Calc V3.10 Software Available for Download
After several months of use by modelers all over the world, the Scorpion Calc software has become very popular for testing out battery and prop combinations on Scorpion
Motors. This newest version has added prop data for the new HK-3026 and HK-4035 series motors, for those people that want to use these motors in aircraft applications, or
that just want to check out the current draw and RMP numbers under various loads. This program has the parameters for all of the Scorpion motors pre-loaded
into it, making prop selection a snap. With Scorpion Calc, you can experiment with different props and input voltages to see what kind of performance you can expect. The
program currently has a database of 270 propellers ranging from a GWS 3x2 up to a Mejzlik 32x10, so there is a wide range to choose from. For any given prop and voltage,
Scorpion Calc will give you the RPM, Pitch Speed, Current Draw, Watts, Motor Efficiency and Estimated Motor Temperature. The fields for Rm, Io, Kv and motor weight are
user selectable, so if you have another motor you want to simulate, just plug in the values and Scorpion Calc will do the rest. Scorpion Calc is the work of Louis Fourdan, a
French RC modeler and programmer, that worked with Scorpion to develop this great piece of software. The best part is that it is available for FREE by going to the
Scorpion Calc v3.10 Download Link.
Here is a screen shot of the Scorpion Calc
program in use. In this simulation, a Scorpion 3020-14 motor is being tested with an APC 11x7E prop, running at 14 volts to simulate a 4-cell Li-Po battery under load.
In this screen shot, you can see that Scorpion Calc predicts that the motor will turn at 10,017 RPM with a pitch speed of 66.4 MPH. The prop will produce 72.6 ounces of
thrust and absorb 57.72 ounce-inches of torque. Further down you can see that the estimated operating temperature of the motor at this load is 116.4 degrees F, and that
the motor is operating at an efficiency of 76.2%. With this prop, the motor will draw 41.882 amps of current, which gives an input power to the motor of 586.3 watts,
and based on the 76.2% efficiency of the motor, this would yield 427.5 watts at the prop. Every time you change a prop, or adjust the input voltage, Scorpion Calc with
re-calculate all of the values for the new inputs. This makes selecting the right prop for your Scorpion motor as easy as bolting it on!
